Project description

We received an urgent enquiry about performing a video inspection below the moon pool on an FPSO. Due to a registered leakage during an annulus test on a Gas Lift Riser End Fitting, the client required the vessel, which is stationed in the North Sea out from Stavanger, to be mobilized urgently.

The client’s main objective was to try to locate and, hopefully, determine where the leak was coming from.

Within 48 hours, IK mobilized the necessary ATEX/EX-Video Inspection equipment and technicians for the operation.

Access to the Riser was from the Moon Pool Connector deck. From here, the technicians had to enter the specific Riser Guide Tube, submerge the camera, and inspect the Gas Lift Riser for leakage.

IK’s field technicians successfully located the leakage area and, by pressuring the Riser, captured the leakage on film for client review.

This entire offshore operation took only four days to mobilize, execute, report and de-mobilize.

“This was a “last minute” call-off mobilization, and therefore, we put all our efforts into obtaining the necessary equipment and manpower to assist the clients’ urgent requirements. There was no guarantee that we could find the presumed leakage as it was extremely difficult to navigate with the camera to survey the Riser in the Riser Guide Tube.”
