Project description

An Oil Supermajor was awarded the assignment to prepare the Heidrun platform to receive the production from the Dvalin field (Zidane). The contract was awarded in September 2016 and includes engineering, procurement, construction, and installation work.

For several Tie-Ins, the Oil Supermajor required IK’s Valkyrie System™, a specialized welding purge barrier system designed for removal through a 1” NS (28mm id) Threadolet after welding.

Due to the use of long, flangeless lengths of piping and multiple bends, traditional back-gas equipment would be challenging to remove after welding and would, in most cases, require water flushing. With the use of IK’s Valkyrie System™, one can avoid the traditional tasks of flushing and drying the pipelines after the welding operations, thus significantly reducing the commissioning time and cost.

IK’s Valkyrie System™ comprises three different back-gas products to cover all pipe sizes. This solution, due to sophisticated purge methods, allows for extremely efficient welding operations. All three products can be removed through a 1-inch Threadolet.

IK’s Valkyrie System™ products use an advanced gas purge monitoring and flow control unit. All operations are carefully planned, and all products are custom-built in-house at IK Topside. Services are performed by experienced and certified personnel who follow specific operational procedures and guidelines.

“Our 168th successful Back-gas isolation installation was performed with IK’s Valkyrie System™ since the initial operations were performed on the Johan Sverdrup “Bridges” Hook-up in 2018.”
